The OCR Classical Greek GCSE (9–1) will be examined for the first time in summer 2018.
Course Overview
Component 01: Language
Worth 50% of the qualification and assessed with a 1 hour 30 minute exam.
Plus, any two of the following five Components (possible to study 2 x prose or 2 x verse if desired). Each Component is worth 25% of the qualification and is assessed with a 1 hour exam.
Components 02, 03, 04, 05: Prose and Verse Literature
Learners study Classical Greek set texts and answer questions on aspects of content, which ask them to analyse, evaluate and respond to the ancient literature they have studied.
Component 06: Literature and Culture
Learners study two topics on Greek Civilisation and Culture using the sources in the Prescribed Sources Booklet and answer questions on aspects of content, culture, social practices and values.
Teaching and learning resources
OCR have a selection of free resources on their website and Bloomsbury have produced endorsed supporting textbooks, including a revised version of Greek to GCSE by John Taylor and an anthology of set texts with accompanying commentaries.
