Course Overview
Students study Component 01 plus, any two of the other five Components 02, 03, 04, 05 and 06. It is possible to study 2 prose or 2 verse options if desired. For full details of the OCR GCSE (9-1) please see the OCR GCSE Latin specification.
Compulsory Component
| 01 Language (50%) |
This compulsory component is worth 50% of the qualification and assessed with a 1 hour 30 minute exam. Component Options
Candidates chose any two options from the following, each of which is assessed by a 1 hour examination and is worth 25% of the qualification. Set texts for options 02, 03, 04 and 05 change every two years: see OCR GCSE Latin syllabus. page 8, for details. Different topics for option 06 are also available in different years: see pages 9 and 10 of the syllabus for details.

| 06: Literature and Culture (25%) | Learners study two topics on Latin Literature and Culture using the sources in the Prescribed Sources Booklet and answer questions on aspects of content, culture, social practices and values. Details of topics set for examination in years up to 2023 can be found in the OCR GCSE Latin syllabus on pages 9 and 10. Teacher Guides
The Cambridge Latin Course teaches Latin via the reading method. It is supported by free online teacher guidance (hard copies are also available for purchase via the shop pages). The teacher guides contain suggestions on how to teach the course effectively, including advice on moving quickly through material, explanations of the order in which grammar is introduced, and general points about using the reading methodology.

English to Latin
For those preparing for the optional English to Latin element of component 01 of the GCSE, the Practising the Language exercises in every Stage of the Cambridge Latin Course will prove useful. These can be found within the online student books here: Online textbooks . Here is an example: Practicing the Language from Stage 29. Many exercises are also available in online versions. These activities allow students to practice selecting correct Latin to complete simple sentences. They use a variety of different language skills . These exercises provide a low stakes way of practising and testing the relevant skills - including selecting correct vocabulary and also grammatical forms - to prepare students for this element of the assessment.
