OCR Entry Level Certificate - Latin

Entry Level Certificates are pitched just below GCSE level and are regulated qualifications. Schools often teach Entry Level to lower year groups as preparation for GCSE or as a stand alone course to support KS3 and KS4. They are also appropriate for students who might struggle with the standard required at GCSE, but still wish to achieve a qualification.

Overview

OCR provides an Entry Level Certificate in Latin which is designed for a wide range of learners and can be co-taught alongside GCSE (9-1) in Latin.  The Entry Level Certificate is made up of 100% internally assessed tasks and tests that can be taken at any point during the course.

Latin Language

Worth 50% of the Certificate, assessed via two 25 minute tests set by OCR.

  • Language test 1 – Vocabulary, grammar and origins of words
  • Language test 2 – Comprehension and translation skills

These are internally assessed by the teacher and then moderated by OCR.

Roman Culture

Worth 50% of the Certificate, assessed via either two 200-word tasks or one 400-word task. Candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and personal response to an aspect or aspects of Roman culture.

Tasks should be set by the teacher, and assessed by them, before being externally moderated by OCR.
